The International Food Policy Research Institute released a report on Thursday that found when it comes to how much of a good food can be eaten in a day, there is “an enormous range”.
The institute said the best food to eat in a typical day was 1,500 calories, with a small amount of protein and less fat, with more than 10 grams of carbohydrates per serving.
For the average adult, it would be 3,300 calories and less than a quarter of a cup of sugar, the report said.
But the study said the average American ate around 1,600 calories a day.
The institute’s report said there were more than 4 million calories in foods on the market today.
The institute called on governments to increase their efforts to make healthy food available to people.
